May 5, Reflection CURRICULUM K TO 12
First of all, the new curricula for kindergarten and Grade 1—which
integrate the learners’ first language (or L1) as subject and medium of
instruction—have yet to be finalized and pretested by planners. Teachers are
being herded by the hundreds into weeklong camps only to be trained haphazardly
by instructors who are mostly unfamiliar with MTBMLE (Mother Tongue-Based
Multi-Lingual Education) concepts. Materials in the local languages are being
produced, graded according to levels of difficulty and evaluated for quality,
again without benefit of pretesting. No systematic assessment and evaluation of
the programs in the so-called 921 MTBMLE pioneer schools have been undertaken.
DepEd is risking far too much in this haphazard approach to
implementing MTBMLE. Teachers are not being given enough time to learn their
own L1, particularly for literacy, much less learn how to teach in the L1.
Teachers who think that they are implementing MLE may not be doing much
different from what they did previously. They need to be retrained entirely,
and that takes time.
Materials preparation requires a minimum of one year and should be
developed with the community, not just with DepEd teachers. If they do not have
sufficient materials, they will not be able to implement well and will not
achieve the desired outcomes.
K TO 12 is learning centered and it should be Holistic approach. There
is flexibility in the curriculum, diverse curriculum concern, and
constructivist, applies the technology in ICT.
On the 21st century it will be interdisciplinary and
they are more productive.
The good teacher in the in K to 12 curriculums should have a 5 C’s.1.
Commitment,2. Competence
3. Creativity 4.Compassion
5. Character is the most for this cannot be taught but this is already inherent
in the person and we cannot change character overnight.
I’ve
learned in the reform agenda that the key people committed to the mission and goals
of the institution or an organization. We can deliver what is promised and
promise foe what is only feasible and we can maintain professional work
conditions. As a teacher in the k to 12 Curriculum should communicate positively
especially in giving message to the students and so as to the parents and to
the community as well. As teachers we should be CHAMPIONS, SO LETS GIVE A TRY
AND ACCEPT K TO 12 in a positive way.
Skills will be the outcome of this K to 12 programs.
The product of planning in the inputs of Education we need a good teacher and
an expert of the subject, with complete facilities and competent enough in the process
and strategy in teaching. For the graduates of K to 12 graduates they are expected
to be competent, they have good attitude.
The graduate of this program is an expert of their choice of
specialization. There is an output which
is necessary for the outcome
